JPALS
Joint Precision Approach and Landing System
RI&S’s Joint Precision Approach and Landing System, or JPALS, is a software-based, high-integrity differential GPS-based precision landing system that guides crewed aircraft to safe landing aboard carrier and amphibious assault ships in all weather and surface conditions.
It uses an encrypted, jam-proof data link to connect to software and receiver hardware on the aircraft to an array of GPS sensors, mast-mounted antennas and shipboard equipment.
Function:
Aircraft glide slope and runway alignment to land on a ship-based touch down point
Platforms:
F-35s, MQ-25As and any aircraft with carrier and amphibious assault ship landing capability
Status/Exports:
Operational: U.S. Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth and ITS Cavour
